What is a HIFU facial?

HIFU stands for High Intensity Focused Ultrasound. Using cutting-edge ultrasound technology, it stimulates the deeper layers of the dermis and surrounding tissue to rejuvenate and replenish skin’s elasticity, tone and texture. The ultrasound energy causes the underlying tissue to heat rapidly causing cellular damage, which in turn stimulates them to produce more collagen.

As collagen levels in the skin increase, firmness, elasticity and skin tightness are restored. Wrinkles and fine lines are reduced, and a youthful, plump complexion is restored.

No other treatment can target the layers of the skin as deeply as HIFU. It simultaneously causes tissue to contract and tighten, whilst thermal energy stimulates collagen production.

As HIFU targets the deeper layers of the skin the upper layers are unaffected, meaning there are no immediate visible signs of treatment. Results take around 3 months to manifest fully, but can be seen within the first week following treatment.

Is HIFU for me?

HIFU is best suited to women and men who are over 30, with mild to moderate signs of ageing such as skin laxity and wrinkles. More severe sagging or sun damaged skin may need multiple treatments for full effect. HIFU is not recommended for anyone with a severe case of acne, blood disorders, open wounds or legions on the skin, or metallic implants around the treatment area.

What can I expect from HIFU treatment? What’s involved and how does it work?

During your HIFU treatment the therapist will cleanse the area ready for treatment, before applying topical anaesthetic cream and ultrasound gel to the treatment area. The HIFU device is then applied to the skin – treatments usually last around 30-90 minutes depending on your objectives and concerns. You may experience some heat and tingling of the skin during the procedure. Following treatment you’re free to go home immediately or return to work and resume normal daily activities. Redness and sensitivity can be felt for 1-2 days following HIFU.
